Dear friends,

July was another busy month for us at Sonshine Hacienda! It flew by in a flurry of activity. The school year came to an end. Old friends and new came to visit. Several of our children completed their year-long contracts at Sonshine and returned home to live with their families. We celebrated graduations and birthdays and baptisms at a local swimming pool. Three of our older girls went to a Christian camp for a week, and the following week we took all of our children camping. A newborn baby came to live with us, and we informed DIF that we have capacity for another 30 children.

We do our best to make plans and follow through, to keep you updated about our needs and invite you to celebrate our victories, but every day seems to bring new challenges, blessings and adventure so that it’s hard to keep up with it all. But one thing is for sure… none of this would be possible without you! We thank all of you for your faithfulness to pray for and support Sonshine Hacienda in the unique way that God has specifically called you. Whether it is through financial donations or through prayer, school supplies or clothing, sharing the newsletter or coming to visit, every one of you is making a difference in the lives of the children entrusted to our care.

Sonshine Hacienda Goes Camping!

Camping with 22 children, 16 adults, for 6 days and 5 nights, will definitely be the highlight of the summer. The kids loved having room to run, mountains to climb, chilies to pick, a pool to swim in, music to dance to, crafts and journaling, daily worship, unlimited amounts of snacks and no bed time. Who doesn’t love summer camp? What a blessing to be able to provide this opportunity to experience God’s creation in new ways and create lasting memories.

We celebrated the graduations of four of our children this year. Alexa is transitioning from secondary school to Cobash (high school); Karla is moving from primary school to secondary (junior high); and Jesus Alberto and Michel both graduated from kinder to primary (elementary). We invite you to pray for all of our children and the coming school year, but especially for these four and the transition to new buildings, new challenges, new friends and new opportunities.

Summer vacation in Mexico is barely over a month long, which means it’s time to start planning for another school year already! The kids return to classes on August 22.

If you’d like to help with school supplies, we welcome donations of: backpacks, computer paper, markers, brown paper lunch bags, scotch tape, white polo shirts, tennis shoes, composition notebooks (lined and graphed), white out pens, calculators, geometry supplies, coloring books (but no crayons please!), toilet paper, hand sanitizer...
